Study 10 Homage to Loie - Heather Stewart
Living and working at Moriac I have been a practising artist for 40 years . My art school
training culminated in a PhD. by Research in art history, theory and practice. After
completing these studies at Deakin University, my work history included tutoring in art history
and PhD. supervisions. I joined with a colleague to create the registered training
organisation, Brougham Art School; delivering art education in Geelong for 10 years up to
the Advanced Diploma level. I retired from teaching art in 2009 to concentrate on my
multidisciplinary practice.
I have exhibited widely including at Geelong Gallery, Qdos, Metropolis and invitations shows
at Port Jackson Press and Morwell Regional Gallery. I have been a finalist in various prizes
including the Talburac , Footscray , Corangamarah and John Leslie art prize. Previously I
concentrated on painting and drawing but more latterly have found sculpture, in various
mediums, informs my problem-solving. A life -long romance with drawing underpins all my
work.
I find myself incorporating mnemonic layers which can be anachronistic, surprising and
culturally diverse, inviting viewers to consider the ways in which imagery shapes, distorts,
and can define our experiences. I strongly believe in the civilizing power of all handmade
and human-generated art and its unique importance as a system of knowledge and
communication.
Once sold, artwork can be collected from Hoop Gallery on Sunday 25th October 2026 from 3pm - 6pm
