Heather Stewart and Sally Fitts - Solo
We are delighted to present our next exhibition featuring the work of Heather Stewart and Sally Fitts, bringing together two distinctive bodies of work that explore movement, form and the forces that exist beyond what we can immediately see.
In Unseen, Heather Stewart explores the invisible forces that shape our perception of the world and our understanding of the human body. Through painting, drawing and sculpture, she considers movement, anatomy, memory and the physical forces that allow the body to stand, move and express itself. Influenced by the pioneering performer Loie Fuller, Stewart’s works evoke bodies concealed within swirling fabric, creating a sense of movement and suggesting the unseen forces beneath the surface.
In Flight, Sally Fitts turns her attention to the avian world, exploring birds in flight and the mesmerising relationships within flocks and murmurations. Working primarily with indigo pencil, pigment, fabric and paper, Fitts creates works that sit between abstraction and figuration. Her delicate compositions capture movement, balance and collective behaviour, while her restrained palette brings a sense of mystery and contemplation.
Together, Unseen and Flight offer a compelling exploration of what lies beneath appearance — the unseen forces, relationships, memories and movements that shape both the human and natural world.
