Oil on Canvas
76cm x 76cm
I live in Fairhaven, with a view north towards the ridge of the National Park, the predominant weather blows from the north west, across the ridge. Winter Rain captures the weight of the clouds as they traverse the ridge and the sunlight highlighting the ridge vegetation before it starts to rain.
My technique is a build up of multiple layers of semi transluscent paint, starting with impasto medium for texture, followed by two layers of underpainting, before the oil paint layers.
Winter Rain - Nicola Perkin
Nicola Perkin returned to formal art study as a mature student, graduating from Sydney College of the Arts in 2007 with Master in Visual Arts, University of Sydney.
Nicola has lived on the Surf Coast for the last 12 years, has exhibited locally and opens her studio annually for the Surf Coast Arts Trail.
Nicola is a landscape artist known for her distinctive use of colour and expressive representation of natural scenes. Her work often focuses on the beauty and tranquillity of landscapes, combining elements of abstraction with more traditional landscape techniques. She frequently explores the interplay of light, colour, and texture in her works, creating pieces that evoke a sense of mood and place.
Her art style can be described as contemporary with an emphasis on capturing the essence of nature rather than exact realism.
