Exhibition Space and Cost

Hoop Gallery is a not-for-profit community run Gallery, however if we do not recover our costs, we cannot operate. We have set fees at the minimum level needed to enable us to continue operation.
Gallery Fee
Hoop Gallery charges $1800 as a hire fee for the entire gallery for an exhibition period of one month. By default, this cost will be divided equally by the number of artists selected or as advised by the curator. From here, artists will work collaboratively with each other and the curator to design the exhibition in an equitable way that delivers the best exhibition outcome.

Included in this fee is administration, marketing, hanging and curation. Although we are a not-for-profit gallery run by volunteers, to enable a professional service, we maintain our curator as a paid contractor. However, the paid hours are limited and everything outside of those hours are volunteer hours from our exhibition coordinator/curator and our volunteer committee and members. It is expected that artists assist where possible to alleviate the strain on volunteer hours.

Commission
Hoop Gallery charges a commission of 20% on sales of artworks in the exhibition.
What else is included?
Our committee volunteers their time to make your exhibition the best it can be. We coordinate an opening event on the first Friday of each exhibition from 6-8pm where we provide two trays of food and mineral water at no cost. We open the bar, providing soft drinks and alcohol for guests to purchase with all proceeds going to the Gallery.
Additionally, we generally hold an event in the Gallery on the second Saturday at noon where one or more artists are invited to be interviewed to discuss their work and current exhibition.
What do you need to do?
Artists need to grasp the full potential of this opportunity to cross-promote amongst their own networks and channels, invite friends, family and collectors to the opening event and to maintain the buzz over the course of the exhibition.
As part of this, a condition of your application is contributing your time by sitting the Gallery for Saturdays and Sundays (10am to 4pm) during the exhibition- to be negotiated and shared equally amongst exhibiting artists. You must also complete an induction into the Gallery in accordance with our OHS policy. If artists are unable to sit their exhibition, a staff member may be available at a cost of $180 per day ($30p/h).
