‘Through the Seasons’ captures the resilience and adaptability of local rock pools as they endure seasonal shifts throughout the year. Inspired by firsthand explorations of tidal reefs, the piece highlights how changing tides, temperatures, and daylight hours influence biodiversity, food availability, and breeding cycles. In response to this year’s Tulburac Prize theme of ‘Seasonal Shift’, the artwork features four interconnected rock pools, each representing a season. Colour palettes shift subtly—dark and moody for winter, saturated for summer, and bright and airy for spring—mirroring natural changes in light and temperature. Embedded within each pool are species familiar to the artist, showcasing the life sustained by these ever-changing environments and honouring the delicate balance held within our coastal ecosystems.
Through the Seasons - Sachi Bridgeford
Sachi is a young Australian artist based on Victoria’s Surf Coast, deeply inspired by the ocean and natural
world. A surfer, adventurer, and environmentalist, she channels her love for nature into vibrant, detail-
rich artworks that explore the beauty—and fragility—of our ecosystems. Working primarily in a graphic illustrative style, Sachi also explores textiles, clay, and paint to bring depth and texture to her pieces.
Through her art, she advocates for ocean protection and climate awareness, aiming to inspire meaningful change. Sachi is currently studying a Bachelor of Graphic Design at RMIT to strengthen her creative voice and communication skills as an emerging ocean activist.
Sachi’s work is deeply influenced by her connection to the Surf Coast, drawing on personal experiences
of surfing, swimming, and exploring the coastline.
This intimate relationship with the ocean shapes her themes and subjects, often highlighting marine life
and coastal ecosystems. She is inspired by artists like Del Kathryn Barton, whose intricate textures and
focus on Australian flora and fauna evoke a sense of magic and depth that mirrors nature’s complexity.
Textile Californian artist Kornelia also informs Sachi’s practice, particularly through her fusion of
vibrant, ocean-inspired design with environmental activism—an approach that resonates with Sachi’s
own commitment to raising awareness through art.
