This piece is reflection of both mood and memory. It conveys movement and stillness; the sea’s relentless motion and an immersive space of reflection for the viewer. Inspired by Victorian waters ‘Perfect, Just the Way You Are’ drills down into our interconnectedness with nature –it seeks an exchange of emotional energy which engenders a sense of a shared future.
Using multiple glazes, velatura and scumbling techniques, I create painted canvas windows where we can be still with nature.

Jane looks to build intimate connections with the natural world. With a focus on our waters and coastal lands, her oil paintings depict the dichotomy between the perpetual movement of the water and its ability to evoke a sense of emotional stability and well-being. Employing an indirect method to slowly build her paintings layer by layer, Jane aims to regenerate the viewer’s engagement with the ebb and flow of their lives reflected in the water’s movement.
