Fine art archival photographic framed print on Archival Canson Rag Photographique Paper as accompanying trigger to the Augmented Reality (AR) digital video and sound experience.

Print size 100cm (W) x 70cm (H)

'Kuarka Dorla Estuary Journey I' is an innovative multidisciplinary artwork by local award-winning artist Rebecca Hosking, whose practice merges traditional lens-based fine art with cutting-edge digital media and immersive technologies such as Augmented Reality. Rebecca’s artworks create narratives that explore the intersections of place, experience, identity and environment. Drawing on culture, site-specific narratives, and field recordings, she crafts aesthetic immersive emotional landscapes designed to foster deep connection, contemplation, inspirational and meaningful engagement with the arts.

Inspired by Wadawurrung First Nations knowledge — where seasons reflect life’s rhythms, ecological balance, and cultural longevity — this artwork explores how seasonal shifts mirror both environmental cycles and societal transformation, while drawing attention to fragile ecosystems and species visible yet unseen.

Set within the Kuarka Dorla estuary along the Great Ocean Road, this multidimensional experience unfolds as a journey through shifting seasons of weather, time, and cultural memory. Following a school of endemic Black Bream, navigating a threatened estuary, this artwork traces ancient pathways and healthier seasons. The journey symbolises cultural depth, resilience, and hope, while contrasting with current rising acidity levels that endanger the species, hinting at the urgent need for renewal. Connecting audiences to Wadawurrung cultural knowledge, ecosystem fragility, and the Anthropocene.
