Pencil on Surf Board
185cm (W) x 49cm (H)
This finely detailed pencil drawing on a recycled surfboard.
We were all told as kids: remember to share — your toys, your snacks, your space. Somewhere along the way, we might’ve forgotten. This work is a gentle reminder to share again — not just with each other, but with the birds, trees, oceans, and animals who call this place home too.
Our coastlines experience continual seasonal shifts — with the ebb and flow of holidaymakers in summer, and a quieter stillness in winter. But no matter the season, we are always guests in these spaces. Whether driving through bushland or surfing the waves, it’s important to remember: we are sharing them.
Earth isn’t just ours — it’s a shared playground, a shared story. Let’s be kind, take turns, and make room.
Kookaburras - Emily Wright
Hello, I’m Emily – an artist based on the Surf Coast of Victoria. My work is a reflection of the deep connection I feel to the natural world, especially the ocean and bush landscapes that surround me.
I work primarily in graphite pencil and lino block printmaking, embracing a slow, hands-on approach that values detail, texture, and time. Each piece is a quiet celebration of nature – its rhythms, beauty, and the sense of grounding it offers.
Spending my days in and around the ocean has been a constant source of inspiration. The coastline, native flora and fauna, and ever-changing light of this region flow directly into my creative practice.
Through my work, I hope to invite others to pause, notice, and reconnect with the natural world around them.
