Metal ring, stainless steel fabric, muslin, velvet fabric, threads, seaweed
‘Journey is inspired by the colours, textures, and curling forms of bark peeling from the river gum trees along the Barwon River. Through the exploration of crushed and heat-treated metal fabric, embellished with natural fibres, the work reflects and symbolises the surrounding landscape. Suspended from a rusty metal ring, the stainless steel fabric hangs in layered, organic forms, echoing the movement and rhythm of nature. Rich blue velvet spirals through the centre of the piece, symbolising the life-giving water that nourishes the plants and animals along the river’s edge. Twisted seaweed forms mark the final stage of the journey, representing the river’s flow into the sea and the interconnectedness of all living systems.
