Raku Ceramic and timber
40cm x 40cm x 7cm
This sculpture draws inspiration from the cycles of the seasons. The textured, colorful surface reflects the shifting palette of nature, greens of spring, warmth of summer, autumn’s rich tones and winter quite hues. The radiating spikes evoke the sun’s changing presence throughout the year.
Equinox - Anthony Trezise
I began working with wood in 1998 after completing a woodturning course at Victoria University in Melbourne. By combining woodturning with hand sculpting, I have developed a distinctive style that is well recognized within the woodturning guild. While my love of timber and the lathe still draws me to create traditional pieces, my current focus is on sculptural works of art.
My signature approach is to transform timber so that it appears fluid rather than rigid, capturing a sense of movement within a natural material. More recently, I have been exploring the integration of ceramics into my sculptures, with a particular interest in Raku firing. Timber and clay, both deeply organic mediums, coexist harmoniously in these pieces, allowing me to explore balance, contrast, and the natural dialogue between materials.
