This exhibition is a snapshot of recent life for me – morning swims at Torquay punctuated by an artist’s residency in India.

Pareidolia plays a major role in the creation of these images. It is human nature to find order within chaos, something of substance amongst the obscure. A relevant example is perceiving faces and animals when looking at natural features such as clouds and rocks. These paintings depict a parallel world to what we see. I am interested in the interconnection between the two, and how I came to be straddling the vast but ever-present chasm dividing reality and imagination.

India, somewhere that keeps calling me back, also presents diverse situations where the mayhem of large cities and days on the road dissolve into a peaceful existence in rural Rajasthan. Paintings begin with random observations that slowly take form.   

In each case, abstract beginnings provide opportunities for the evolution of biomorphic shapes; strange and unique entities that generate their own narratives. The creation of these new friends is always a surprise for me and left up to the viewer for interpretation. The everyday is transformed into the realm of fantasy, and I would like to invite you into this world.
